I'LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS (2015)

There are so few films these days that detail the lives of senior citizens, that when one comes along as delightful as this one, you want to make sure people are aware of it. It had a rather limited theatrical release and is now available on DVD so it is now easily available to view. A touching and very quiet film directed by Brett Haley who co-wrote the screenplay with Marc Basch, it details the life of a widow beautifully played by Blythe Danner who has settled into her life of comfort and complacency, so much so that when her dog suddenly dies it seems to serve as a catalyst for changes to occur. She has a group of friends that play bridge a couple of times a week who provide support, but when she catches the eye of Sam Elliott, a future of new possibilities starts to open up. Her friends encompass a group of older actresses that include Rhea Perlman, June Squibb and Mary Kay Place, that are always a pleasure to see and provide much needed support and camaraderie to each other. This is not a film that will necessarily change your life but I loved it nevertheless and will treasure it as a rare jewel to behold. There is a lot of industry buzz that Blythe Danner may be nominated for the Best Actress Oscar, which will be well deserved if it comes her way.
