Sean Ellis directed this film from a screenplay that he co-wrote with Anthony Frewin based on the true story of Operation Anthropoid, where a group of exiled Czechoslovak soldiers were assigned in December of 1941 to assassinate SS Officer Reinhard Heydrich (aka The Butcher of Prague and the third highest ranking Nazi Official behind Hitler and Himmler and the main architect of The Final Solution, exterminating 11 million people in concentration camps, including six million Jews). This film is thrilling in its execution and the fact that the story actually happened makes the events all the more fascinating. Though the events led to disaster for all the principals involved, it caused Winston Churchill to take action against Germany by dissolving the Munich Agreement of 1938 which was a settlement permitting Nazi Germany’s annexation of portions of Czechoslovakia. The excellent cast includes Cillian Murphy, Jamie Dornan, Anna Geislerova, Toby Jones and Charlotte Le Bon among many others. Though this film has a tragic ending it was staying true to the facts of what underground fighters did in the inevitable defeat of the Third Reich.
