SOUTHSIDE WITH YOU (2016)

Richard Tanne directed from his own original screenplay the story of how Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson (Obama) survived their first date and how it evolved itself into a very good and powerful marriage. Though the film ends when the date ends, it certainly gives insight into these two exceptional young people and what was in store for them based on the incredibly high standards and expectations that they had both set for themselves. Beautifully cast with Parker Sawyers as Barack Obama and Tika Sumpter as Michelle Robinson, the film really rests on an excellent script and how these two actors were brilliantly directed to flesh out these two characters that we all feel we know so well. The film presents a side of our President and First Lady before they were famous and in doing so brings them down to earth in a way that all of us can relate to.
