Joe Wright’s film written by Jason Fuchs serves as a type of prequel to the J.M. Barrie novel PETER PAN. I have to admit that I had such low expectations for this film that I actually put off going to see it. What I found was an utterly charming story that was clearly well thought out, wonderfully acted and production design that was so inventive that it became an integral part of the film while never over powering it. The first ten minutes alone were worth the price of admission and could be said to be the equivalent of the old E-Ticket ride at Disneyland. Levi Miller as Peter Pan, Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard, Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily, and Garrett Hedlund as James Hook more than fulfill their roles as characters that have been played by many other actors in other variations of this story. Perhaps because I walked into the theatre not expecting much, is why I found myself completely accepting of this paragon of fantasy stories and completely entranced, buying into it lock, stock and barrel.
