This very interesting and entertaining film directed and written by Paolo Sorrentino, stars Michael Caine as a famous composer/conductor and Harvey Keitel as an equally famous film director who as best friends reflect on the meaning of their lives while vacationing at a high end spa in the Swiss Alps. It tells the perpetual and constant struggle of living which encompasses life, death, age, youth, sorrow and joy. This is a lovely and quiet film with exquisite performances to be had from Paul Dano as a very successful actor, mature beyond his years, Rachel Weisz as Mr. Caine’s daughter, and a twelve minute tour de force by Jane Fonda that may well win her an Oscar nomination in the supporting actress category. Mr. Caine is especially good as he feels this is the best work he has ever done in a film and rightly so.
