Ben Stiller’s film is one of the most sophomoric pieces of filmmaking I’ve ever seen and commits the one crime a comedy of this fashion cannot, it’s not funny. Written by John Hamburg, Ben Stiller, Nick Stoller and Justin Theroux and based on the characters created in the original ZOOLANDER film, it really stuns me as to how they got so many very well known actors and members of the fashion industry to participate. Again, did anyone actually ever read the completed screenplay? Films like this make you truly wonder if anyone with a mind is actually working at the American film studios anymore. I’m all for silly comedy if it’s done well, but it first and foremost needs to be funny, at least part of the time. I would advise some of today’s filmmakers to study the films of Blake Edwards, Frank Capra, Ernst Lubitsch and Melvin Frank (whose film BUONA SERA, MRS. CAMPBELL the musical MAMMA MIA! was based on). These were guys who knew how to make an audience laugh instead of wasting its time with drivel like this. This picture stars Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Penelope Cruz, Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig.
